Ireland’s marine research ecosystem
Researchers and organisations in Ireland participate in national and international funding programmes, including competitive EU research initiatives. Public funding comes through government departments and agencies.
We work with these organisations to align research with policy priorities, scientific excellence, and sectoral development. We also support the research ecosystem through funding, coordination, and data services.
Ocean Knowledge 2030
Ireland’s national strategy for marine research, knowledge and innovation provides a framework for coordinating investment, policy, and programmes from 2025 to 2030. It supports evidence-based decisions and the sustainable development of Ireland’s ocean economy.
