How the Marine Institute is governed
The Marine Institute was established under the Marine Institute Act 1991. Our Board is accountable to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and is responsible for good governance and compliance with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies 2016. The Board provides leadership and strategic direction, sets performance indicators, and measures progress. It closely monitors risk, financial performance, and strategic performance.
Audit and risk
The Audit and Risk Committee is a committee of the Board. It oversees and advises on financial performance, operating and governance risks, risk management, internal controls, and value for money. It also oversees the annual Internal Audit Plan and liaises with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.
