Transparent, efficient, and value-driven procurement

Our procurement function supports the Marine Institute’s scientific, operational, and strategic objectives. National and EU public procurement requirements govern our work alongside the principles of fairness, openness, and accountability.

Our objectives

The Procurement function aims to:
  • ensure compliance with Irish and EU procurement legislation
  • achieve value for money across purchasing activities
  • promote sustainable and responsible procurement
  • support innovation and competitiveness within the supply base
  • deliver efficient, fit-for-purpose procurement solutions

How we procure

We work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to acquire the goods, works, and services needed for marine research, environmental monitoring, and innovation.

Our process normally includes:

  1. planning and needs assessment;
  2. market engagement;
  3. tendering;
  4. evaluation and award; and
  5. contract management.

We participate in Office of Government Procurement initiatives and use centralised framework agreements where appropriate.

Sustainable and socially responsible procurement

Environmental and social considerations are part of our purchasing decisions. These include greener purchasing, lifecycle costs, resource efficiency, fair working conditions, accessibility, inclusion, and ethical sourcing.
