Background

The Marine Institute is committed to being a sustainable organisation, making a positive contribution to the conservation of the environment.

Through our services and how we operate, the Institute seeks to minimise our impact on, and contribute to the protection and conservation of, the environment.

Policy Statement

The Marine Institute commits to make efficient use of energy, throughout all of its activities and operations, as outlined in the Marine Institute strategy Ocean Knowledge that Informs and Inspires 2023-2027 and the Marine Institute Climate Action Roadmap. Through this Energy Policy, the Marine Institute commits to:

  • Developing and maintaining a framework for setting and reviewing objectives and energy targets
  • Ensuring the availability of information and necessary resources to achieve objectives and energy targets
  • Comply with applicable legislation and other requirements
  • Continually improve our energy performance and the Energy Management System
  • Purchase energy efficient products and services that impact our organisations energy performance, in line with our Procurement policies.
  • Consider design activities that support energy performance improvements
  • Implementing a comprehensive approach to energy management by combining energy reduction initiatives with the adoption of renewable energy.

Communication

This policy will be communicated throughout our organisation, to staff and to all those who work on our sites, and more widely to our clients and stakeholders.

Linkage to Strategy

Our energy policy objectives are embedded within the Marine Institute Strategic Priority of “Our organisation, committing to sustainability”.

Review

Necessary updates and regular reviews of this policy will be implemented and approved by our Senior Leadership Team.
