Fisheries surveys at sea
We conduct surveys throughout the year using the research vessels R.V. Celtic Explorer and R.V. Tom Crean, as well as commercial vessels. The resulting datasets describe the distribution, abundance, and structure of fish and shellfish stocks.
Multidisciplinary research
Our surveys meet multiple scientific objectives. Alongside fisheries data, we collect environmental and biological information, including oceanographic conditions and ecosystem indicators. This integrated approach improves understanding of how fish populations interact with their environment.
Students at Sea
The Students at Sea bursary programme gives early-career researchers practical experience in survey methods, data collection, and life at sea. We deliver the programme in partnership with Atlantic Technological University (ATU).
